Through readings and songs, this cantata for young people serves as a storytelling piece that attempts to capture the essence of the history of our salvation from the earliest days of faith through the birth of Jesus. We Shall Prepare draws not only on the Christmas story related in the New Testament but connects the birth of Jesus with various biblical figures and events from the Old Testament.

Structured with readings between each musical piece that help to set the premise for each song, this program has a sort of Lessons and Carols feel. The inclusion of the readings on the recording makes it an excellent tool for teaching while making it fun to listen to at home.

Available recordings also include instrumental versions of all the songs that can serve as background music as you rehearse, or even for a performance in the event that you don’t have sufficient musicians to accompany your choir. Aside from its use as a complete cantata, much of the music could be used to enhance your liturgies throughout both the Advent and Christmas seasons as well as other times of the liturgical year, especially the songs based on the Old Testament.

The director’s book is laid out to give you everything you need to perform the entire piece, while the instrumental book is ideal for soloists. The beauty of this program—besides the wonderful music—is found in its adaptability. Depending on the age group and size of your choir, available cantors or even your budget for musicians, this program can be adapted to fit your parish’s needs/abilities.
